In 2003 the Tolkien Society launched Tolkien Reading Day on March 25, the day Sauron was defeated. It is designed as "an opportunity for people of all ages to read together and share their thoughts about the story."

ontd_lotr is hosting an online Reading Day event. Head over and share your stories about your first time reading any of Tolkien's books, talk about your experiences attending a Reading Day event, share your favorite quotes or recs of books about Tolkien. It's a really nice way to honor the man who's given us such tremendous joy.
